Scope & Content 1. The first newspaper aritcle, dated Aug. 18, 1891 announced that Mr. S.Roger Mitchell would soon become known as the president of the Mitchell Manufacturing Co, near the "tin" bridge on River St. His father founded the business about 40 years ago. After visiting other cities, he realized that the Fitchburg location had more to offer such as the location, railroad facilities, water and the reliable and steady class of working people.
2. The second newspaper article, dated June 10, 1892, gives us information about Mr. Mitchell being president of the Mitchell Manufacturing Co. These gingham mills made the finest quality of gingham found anywhere. The article also stated that Mr. Mitchell was associated with him in the ownership of the mill his sons, S. Roger Mitchell and A.A. Mitchell, under the firm name of A.Mitchell, Jr. and Sons.
3. The third article was a special article that appeared in the Fitchburg Sentinel showed a picture of the Mitchell Manufacturing Co. and told that this mill producted the finest Scotch ginghams and fancy dress goods manufactured. The output each week was between 35,000 and 40,000 yards per week. The company employed about 200 people.
